An entire environment.
Engineered around the audience.
Directed and produced by Alex Wolf through Lookport, Antarctica: The Melting Silence is a 25K, 360-degree installation combining panoramic film, CG environments, audience interaction and spatial sound.
The creative task was to make the architecture perform as one continuous canvas. Image, motion and music were developed together for Outernet’s floor-to-ceiling screens, with the audience inside the composition.

01 / Direction at architectural scale
Beyond a frame.
Across the room.
A 23,000-square-foot screen environment changes the relationship between image and viewer. The production combines landscape footage, CG imagery and animated information within a visual sequence designed for people looking in different directions.
Alex’s direction connects the scale of the screens with the pace of the experience. Large panoramic scenes establish the environment; changes in motion, detail and sound guide attention through it. The story is carried by the audiovisual composition, without a narrator.

Interaction / CG / Real-time production
Movement becomes
part of the image.
In the krill sequence, the animation mirrors visitors’ movements. The installation shifts from a surrounding image to a responsive environment: people can see their presence reflected in the work.
The production brings together CG art direction, Unreal Engine and Ventuz artists. Cinematic sequences and interactive content share the same visual world, connecting the authored film with a live audience experience.
The platform
“a canvas for the most important stories of our time.”
The director
“a way to turn care into action, and technology into something more human.”
03 / Music as part of the architecture
150+ instrumental layers.
One spatial score.
Nico Cartosio’s original score was recorded with a live orchestra and built from more than 150 instrumental layers. Outernet’s spatial sound system gives the music a physical presence alongside the panoramic image.
The score shapes the experience’s rhythm and transitions. Sound and picture function as one composition, giving the installation its scale, atmosphere and dramatic progression.
